Chronopost acquires a 60% stake in Calédonie Express
Chronopost, France's leading company in the express delivery of parcels, announces that it has acquired a 60% stake in the company Calédonie Express. The official signature took place on 9 December 2014, in the presence of Martin Piechowski, the Chairman and CEO of Chronopost, François Evrard, the Director for French Overseas Regions, and Thierry Héraut, the General Manager of Calédonie Express.
Chronopost and Calédonie Express:
a long-standing partnership Chronopost and Calédonie Express have been working together since 2009 and have constantly developed their partnership. At first, the partnership concerned the delivery of parcels arriving from continental France on the island. However, Chronopost rapidly entrusted its local partner with the management of export flows from New Caledonia to continental France, as well as the marketing of its service offer on the island. "To take our collaboration further, we naturally decided to strengthen our partnership by becoming a shareholder in Calédonie Express, which will now operate under the Chronopost brand. This new development stage will enable us to deploy local sales initiatives to meet the needs and expectations of New-Caledonians, and build a regional network in Oceania to meet the import and export needs of our customers," explains Martin Piechowski, Chairman and CEO of Chronopost.
New Caledonia: a buoyant market
Chronopost has been present on the island since 2009, through its exclusive partnership with Calédonie Express. Today, the Chronopost depot in Nouméa employs 6 staff. Three daily rounds enable the company to deliver 2,000 parcels a month, for both business (60%) and individual customers. New Caledonia is a dynamic market with good development prospects, driven by imports and exports, particularly from and to Oceania, which accounts for almost 50% of the island's economic activity.
Set up in 1985, Chronopost is France's leading company in the express delivery of parcels weighing up to 30 kg to both businesses and individual customers worldwide. As a subsidiary of GeoPost, Le Groupe La Poste's Parcels and Express holding company, Chronopost employs 3,500 people and transported 102.2 million parcels in 2013. In France, Chronopost has a network of 80 operational sites, including 6 hubs. Chronopost serves more than 230 countries in Europe and worldwide. Since 1 July 2012, Chronopost is the first express deliveries company to offset all of its CO2 emissions through the Total Zeroprogramme.
